Headteachers Update 13th June 2025

We’re delighted to share some updates and reminders as we head further into the summer term.

It has been wonderful to see the children applying themselves so well in their recent assessments. We understand that assessments can sometimes be a source of worry, and I want to assure you that these were delivered with great sensitivity and care. The children approached them with fantastic effort and resilience, and we are incredibly proud of how well they’ve all done. Their hard work truly shone through!

This week we have been visited by the new Lord Mayor of York. He spent time with all our children in assembly and also had a special session with our school council, who were amazing. He wrote to the school following his visit and I wanted to share the start of the letter with you:

“I wanted to write to thank you, the staff and the children for a lovely welcome on Monday afternoon when I visited the school. From my car pulled up, to the excited children eager to ask the Lord Mayor questions, it was clear that this was a great school where both the pupils and the staff are happy to be. The school was presented in such a warm, friendly and welcoming way. You should be rightly proud of what you are achieving, and it was clear that you are a well-respected, and much-admired Head with vision, and a desire to be the very best.”

It was lovely to receive such positive feedback.

Our annual Sports Day is fast approaching on Wednesday 9th July. To ensure everyone gets their moment to shine, we’ll be splitting the day:

  • Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6) will have their events in the morning.
  • Reception and Key Stage 1 (Years 1-2) will enjoy their sports in the afternoon

More specific timings and details about parent attendance will be shared closer to the date.

Next week, we’ll be celebrating National School Sport Week! This is a fantastic initiative designed to highlight the importance of physical activity and sport for children’s well-being. We have planned a variety of additional sports activities and challenges throughout the week to ensure all children have extra opportunities to get active, try new sports, and have fun.

As we begin our preparations for next year, you will receive your children’s school reports on Monday 30th June. These reports will also contain information about your child’s class for next year and transition arrangements. It is important at this stage to let you know that Mr Hinde and Mrs Goliger will be leaving us at the end of this school year. Mr Hinde will be moving to a KS1 teaching position in North Yorkshire and Mrs Goliger will be taking up a position of Vice-Principal at Carr Junior School. Both teachers have made a huge contribution to school life and they will be greatly missed by staff and children.

If you have any questions about the information above, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office.
