Headteachers Update 11th February 2022

Sadly, Covid has finally caught up with me! A big thank you to all the staff for leading in my absence. My energy levels have improved as the week has gone on so I’ve managed to work remotely. I’ve missed everyone so much, it’s an awful feeling being at home when everyone is having fun in school! I’ve got everything crossed for day 5 & 6 negative tests, I hope I’m skipping into work on Monday!

Cherelle (Branches TA) has worked full time at HMO whilst completing her degree part time in Development and Education, Children and Young People with Special Education Needs and Inclusion. She celebrated her hard work and success at her graduation ceremony on Monday! Mhairi (Catkins TA) also graduated this week with a BA Honours in Primary Education 5-11 with Qualified Teacher Status. We are all very proud of you both!

On Tuesday our Y6 pupils welcomed a small group of Y7 pupils back into the Oaks. The Y7s shared their experiences of life at Applefields and participated in a joint PE session in the gym. The Y6 parents were then invited to an afternoon session to listen to Andy Kemp, assistant head at Applefields, talk about the provision, class organisation and curriculum offer. Thank you to those who attended. We have more opportunities to support both children and parents for the transition to secondary school in the months ahead.

Enjoy prepping for World Book Day on 4th March. We made the decision a few years ago to only have non uniform days on a Friday. This supports our pupils with Autism to have a clear start and finish to wearing their school uniform and the weekend helps make the distinction, hence the date being different to the national event!

We’ve got exciting news for after half term… Live assemblies are back! This means you will receive a text message inviting you to join us if your child is being awarded a golden leaf! We will need a week or two to practise our songs so we aim to invite parents from w/c 21st March.

Thank you to the 22 York families who have provided information for wraparound and out of school provision for York children with SEND. It will be very helpful in our discussions. The link will continue to work if you haven’t yet had time to give your feedback, just return to your parent hub to access it.  Enjoy the photographs of our NSPCC number day… isn’t Maths exciting in HMO! Take care, Olivia
