Headteacher Update 15th September

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to a new school year and a very special welcome to all our new children and families that joined us last week.  The sun has shone all last week and it has been lovely coming back to school in this beautiful weather…………..if not a bit too hot!! Everyone has made a wonderful start to the term and it’s been lovely to see all of the children returning to school looking super smart in their school uniform.  Thank you for your support with this.

Last week we also welcomed a few new members of staff, Mr Gallacher, one of the Y5/6 teachers, Liz Cooper, our new School Business Partner, and Mrs Holder Williams, our Y1/2 teacher.  We hope they enjoy working as part of our amazing team.

Since we returned to school, Miss Brady and I have been delighted to see our weekly attendance has not been too far from national average, however, at 93.89% collectively, we must continue to work together to understand how important it is for children to be in school every day on time.  We are going to add our class attendance figures to our newsletters and every class that hits the target will get a treat at the end of the week.  All teachers will be involved in raising the attendance standard this year so please be aware, your child’s teacher will be checking in regularly to encourage this.  We can’t emphasise enough how important it is to attend regularly so there is no lost learning and the children don’t miss out on any fun activities.

Next week our Year 6 children will certainly have lots of fun as they are going on their residential trip to Newby Wiske in Thirsk.  Let’s hope the sun shines!

This week, I have been very impressed with how respectful our children have been and how keen they are to share their experiences over the summer holidays.

Just a reminder that children are supervised by our staff on the playground from 8.40am so for them not to arrive before then, and please can younger children be accompanied until the staff arrive, thank you.

Staffing News

Over the summer,  Mr Unwin got married in a wonderful stately home in Northern Ireland. It looks as if Mr and Mrs Unwin had a fabulous day. We’ve never seen Mr Unwin look so smart!               

We wish to congratulate Mrs Holder Williams on her pregnancy and we are recruiting  shortly for her maternity leave replacement.
