Headteacher Update 28th April 2023

Dear Parents /Carers,
I hope you all had a fabulous Easter break and that you enjoy the 3 day Bank holiday weekends this week and next.
As we start a new term, I wanted to let you know that the DfE (Department for Education) has introduced new rules for September that require all main stream schools to deliver a compulsory school week of at least 32.5 hours. This is because there is variation currently between schools across the country in terms of the amount of time children have in school. As a result, many schools are planning to change their start and / or finish times through a parental consultation.
We are lucky at Hob Moor that we only need to make a small tweak to our current times. Currently, both our Reception children and all our KS2 children (Yr3 – Yr6) access exactly the correct amount of time in school. Our KS1 (Yr1 and Yr2) need to access 5 minutes more a day, and therefore from September 2023 all children (except our Nursery children) will finish school at 3.20pm.
This will mean very little, if any, change to the majority of families. However, we do recognise that in September this will be a slight change to our current Year 1 children and I would ask you to come and speak to me if this is going to prove difficult for you.
To be clear, from September 2023, the timings for our school days will be:
 Reception children: 8.45am – 3.15pm
 KS1 and KS2 children: 8.50am – 3.20pm
Nursery times will remain the same:
 Morning session: 8.45am – 11.45am
 Afternoon session: 12.30pm – 3.30pm
 Full Day: 8.45am – 3.30pm
Many thanks for your support with making sure that our school is compliant with the new rules for mainstream schools from September. Please don’t hesitate to come and see me if you have any questions.
